Justice Hakeem Oshodi of an Ikeja High Court, Lagos yesterday heard how an unemployed young man, Sowunmi Gabriel Oladipo allegedly defrauded a female British National, one Stephanie Metacalfe of £150′000. Oladipo, who portrayed himself as both Brian Kinsella and Gabriel Solomon, met Stephanie sometime in June 2014 on an online dating site as Brian (resident in the Brompton United Kingdom) where they chatted and later turned lovers. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Oladipo on a four-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence but he denied the allegations. The commission alleged that Oladipo and one Adebayo (still at large) between the months of June and September 2014 with intent to defraud obtained the sums of USD $228, 661, £25, 403 and £8, 969 from Stephanie through Western Union Money Transfer Scheme and money gram on the false pretense that he was a supervisor in Shell oil company in Nigeria. Former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh was killed Monday by Houthi rebels as he tried to flee clashes with his allies-turned-foes in the capital. Two days earlier, Saleh announced the end of a three-year alliance with the Iranian-backed Houthis. He said he wanted to "turn the page" on relations with the Saudi-led coalition that launched a military intervention against the Houthis in Yemen in 2015, leading to a crippling blockade of the country. Report emerged on the social media late last week that soldiers and some corps members clashed in the NYSC camp in Kano. Herdsmen Kill Four Policemen as Army Repel Attacks on Numan The Brigade Commander, 23 Armoured Brigade Yola, Brig. General Muhammed Bello, has confirmed the death of four policemen killed by suspected herdsmen. He said the policemen were killed in Numan local Government Area of Adamawa State by some suspected herdsmen numbering up to over 60 well-armed men Gen. Bello said his men after receiving distress call, mobilised to repel the Fulani militia. He explained that the attackers were above 60 in number that the army had to use RPG to subdue them. 8-year-old Victory Chikamso, the little girl who was brutally murdered by a 200-level student of the the Faculty of Science, University of Portharcourt, Rivers State, identified as Ifeanyi Dike has been buried. According to the obituary photo released by the family, Chikamso was buried yesterday in Port Harcourt. It would be recalled that Chikamso was brutally murdered by Dike who had sexually assaulted her before trying to harvest her body for money rituals. Armed Fulani herdsmen have reportedly killed six mobile policemen in Numan town in Adamawa State yesterday night, according to a report by Premium Times. The tragic incident happened in the night while the officers were trying to make arrests at Dowaya, a predominantly Fulani settlement. The sad incident has forced residents to flee. Speaking about the incident, Police spokesperson, Othman Abubakar, a superintendent of police, said he had heard there was problem in Numan but could not immediately give details. Mr. Abubakar said he was at a “crucial meeting” with the state Commissioner of Information and other relevant officials. A Chinese-trained medical doctor from Southeast Medical Unniversity, Elizabeth Ihuoma, whose wedding is slated for next week, has passed on.. She died alongside her mother, Julie Adaeze Wagoha, a staff of Rivers Sate University, in a fatal accident in Rivers state this week. Elizabeth was to get married on the 9th of December, Saturday… She was on her way to the market with her mother to buy some things for her wedding when the accident happened. The deceased had boarded a bus and were both seated in front. While transiting, the bus tried to overtake a car but then collided with a tanker parked on the road.
